Why This Exists

He Knows This Road

DaVarryl Williamson grew up in poverty in Washington, D.C., with a father in prison and a mother fighting addiction. What gave him something to hold onto was summer camp, football, and mentors who stayed in his corner: structure, discipline, and people who believed in him. He went on to become a ten-time national boxing champion, a Hall of Famer, and, with a master’s degree, the most educated boxer in the United States.

He started TYP in 2015 for one reason: so the next kid gets the same shot he did. Every young person who walks through the door gets a dedicated coach in their corner, no matter where they come from.

The Program

What Young People Get

An old-school boxing gym, technical coaching, and a community that shows up for them.

Championship Coaching

Training under a champion and a deep bench of USA Boxing certified, SafeSport-trained coaches. The same fundamentals that build champions, taught with patience to first-timers.

Mentorship

Coaches who know these young people by name and stay in their corner long after the workout ends. Steady, trusted adults who model discipline, accountability, and respect.

Life Skills

Focus, goal-setting, handling pressure, and bouncing back from a setback, the habits learned in the ring carry straight into school, work, and life.

Getting started is simple, and it happens face to face. Stop by the gym during open hours, meet the coaches, and we will walk you and your young person through everything. Scholarships mean cost is never a barrier. No appointment or paperwork needed to start the conversation.
